Bookflog: Can He Bake a Cherry Pie?

Nov 06, 2009 07:02

I got my hands on a copy of Never After, the anthology featuring the non-AB:VH/MG short story that LKH was so gleeful about earlier this year.  So, I took a bullet for the team and this is the result.

She turned me into a newt. I got better. )

she made you a metaphor but she eated it, bookflog: never after, book recommendations, bookflog

I tried, I did, but I totally couldn't read most of this. I just kept thinking about the summary you had given me *shudder* LKH just...she just can't write. And should not be allowed to.

Also, best Facebook status ever by her brothers. I'd totally be all over that.

Now I wish I was at home so I could grab up my copy of Dragon's Bait. You've gotta read it, that dragon, man, he's such a hot asshole. Except I think he was in the form of a teenager? So I guess I'd feel pervy reading it, now.

I guess if one wanted more evil!faerie!books, there's also Cold Iron and it's sequel, Sisters of the Rain--totally 90s, but fun and with semi-sociopathic faeries in the "real world." Also, damn, I know a few others, I went through a ~stage~, I'll try to come up with them. Hunter's Moon is also pretty cool.

Do you have a drunk pedobear kind of t-shirt that you can wear to take the edge of the perv factor?

One of these days, I'm going to read Charles de Lint. But I kinda want to keep going with LKH because the pain and frustration spur me on to "I CAN DO BETTER!" and furious writings.

I FEEL BETTER ABOUT MYSELF NOW. I totally used to sneak those books into church with me to read instead of paying attention to mass. *shifty*

LOL, I don't quite recall if I did that, but I love them and still own a complete set of all 6 books. I always wanted there to be more of them, too. Sheila McCarthy was so one of my first heroes, I wanted to be her so bad!

I think I have two of them? it was really hard to get hold of them at my library. I'll have to hit the book stores to see if they still have any in stock, or at least save like crazy online. I'm all nostalgic now.

There was the bawdy drinking song of Princess Jasmine.

That tart.

My reaction, "What is Princess Jasmine doing with Aladdin that makes a bawdy song?!"

THAT WAS MY FIRST THOUGHT TOO.

Princess Jasmine would kick Elinore's ass in this and still sashay into the Castle of Doom to win the day or at least distract the sorceress while Aladdin steals treasure/rescues the prince.

hey, there are no judgements here about Young Adult fiction. I'm a mom of two teens, going for my teaching credential, and I'm THRILLED to find new books that have a high quality of writing. Just because they aren't aimed at adults doesn't mean they should be written poorly...

now if we can only impart that level of quality on some series supposedly aimed at adults...

I've kinda gone back to YA in the last few years because they are better written than books aimed at adults. It's not always the case, but for the most part they're more enjoyable. I remember reading these books back in high school and loving them, and I'm pretty sure they hold up after all this time.
