You forgot the beautiful:
"Subscriptions - Should moderators be able to charge for access to closed communities?"

That made my jaw drop in shock

Basically, yes. Some people are reading this as if LJ might add support for access fees. But what has happened is that they've discovered someone charging for access, and now they're trying to figure-out how to go about prohibitting it.

It's a start. It's bought them some time with me; at least now I'm willing to stick around and see what happens next.

Still taking part in the Content Strike, though, and setting up a blog and some communities over on IJ. I don't trust the LiveJournal staff to keep their promises, no matter how shiny.

Of course, were they sincere, then they'd roll-back the elimination of Basic accounts and run through the proper procedure. but if they were sincere, they they'd also not be stone-walling on the Popular Interests censorship.

And yet they're still holding onto the Useful Idiots who encourage continued dialogue, as in drop[ping] LJ a line regarding this and other matters.

I apologize for such a silly question, but, as I've been away from Lj for a couple of months, I want to know whether I need to worry about losing my two basic Lj accounts. What's happening?

A short answer would be fine, thank you! :)

You are in no immediate danger of losing your Basic accounts; no more Basic personal accounts can be created.

I'm slightly annoyed with the fact that if you create a new journal (which I did just earlier this morning!) you still have the option of having a basic account! So I selected it, but instead I was not given a Basic Account, but a Plus Account. Why tease newcomers like that? If you're going to implement this ridiculous new feature then I suggest you get rid of this option! If not, keep the option and do away with the feature.

Why exactly were basic accounts such a problem? Can't you just put ads somewhere else instead of on people's personal journals? I mean, honestly, who's really going to go clicking on some ad they see on their personal LJ? I don't think this makes too much sense unless the company desperately needed the support...
