An unnecessary election recap

Or:  Why I didn't vote, why it doesn't matter, and why the whole thing pisses me off to begin with.

To begin with:  I don't even know who won.  The election was two days ago, and I have not watched a news show, opened a paper, checked the news on the internet, or even asked anyone about it.  To put it frankly, not only don't I know, I don't fucking ( Read more... )

There was an Onion pie chart graphic showing the number of offices won by politicians, versus the number won by everyone else.

Politicians: 100%

So in light of the election...I had some pretty angry conversations with my peers (college students) many of us did not vote.

Not becuase of the fact that we are ignorant or apathetic but because we despise the options and the system.

The Electoral College is the biggest piece of bullshit I can fathom, and I'll be damned to spend my time at the ballot box when the very fact that I live in a "red state" will nullify any vote that i may make.. whether it be republican or democrat....

Im sick of old men with sick agendas being my only options to represent me in my government... I doubt we have a lot in common, or that they "understand" me... But then again Im just a beer guzzeling adolescent so what do I know about politics.

Wow... sorry I didnt mean to Rant on your page.. but your entry hit home as I wonder at how guilty I should feel for not enacting my Civil Duties to My country. My answer: NOt very guilty at all.

Damn straight! Feel free to rant away. But I'm just a beer-guzzling twenty-something, so what do I know? Sick old men with sick agendas obviously know better than I what's for my own good; after all, why else would we vote for them?

Hahaha! Yeah, old Immanuel and I have never gotten along. (Hey, when a philosopher describes his own work as "long-winded and obscure", run.) Mill probably wouldn't like half of what I say, either. I would hang out better with Locke. And Nietzsche. Mostly.

Hope all's still well in D.C., despite the recent Lemony-Snickett-ville for the GOP.

One of The Simpsons annual Hallowe'en Treehouse of Horror episodes which take place outside of their normal continuity deals with that first election in which you could partake. In that episode, Homer Simpson, Bill Clinton, and Bob Dole are all kidnapped by aliens. Two of the aliens, Kang and Kodos, take Clinton's and Dole's places. Homer manages to escape and shows up at a presidential debate, revealing "Clinton" and "Dole" as Kang and Kodos, at which point they resume their real forms. But Kang says, "You have no choice but to vote for one of us."

To this Kodos adds, "It's a two party system."

Ross Perot, who is in the audience for the debate, stands up and says,"You could vote for me."

To this, Kang responds, "And throw your vote away?"

In the end, Kang wins, and as the Simpson family is being taken away in chains to a life of slavery and alien chow, Homer says, "Don't blame me! I voted for Kodos."
