I'm betting a lot of folks on my f'list will be reposting this tonight. It's really well written, with a conceptual grasp of what fanfic is, and its place in various larger fandoms. I only wish he'd included at least one pro-fanfic quote from a professional, like something from Corey Doctorow. I know he mentioned Rowling and Meyer's neutral or positive stance in passing, but he quoted several anti-fanfic authors, so it would have been nice. Still, that's an extra small gripe on my part, and I give the piece a solid, solid A-. (Any bets on whether the author's written fanfic in the past? Heh.)
