I'd like to take a moment to brag on my City Council. As of Thursday, we are the second US city (after Baltimore) to require crisis pregnancy centers to post notices at their entrances if they do not offer or refer women to abortion or contraception ( Read more... )

I understand why this is such a big deal to them, but I don't understand why this is such a big deal to them.

That doesn't make any sense. But maybe it does.

This is the same City Council that added gender identity to the City's anti-discrimination policies and directed the City Manager to set up a benefit equivalent to federal COBRA benefits for domestic partners of City employees.

Some people, it seems, need to realize that free speech does not mean that one should be allowed to falsely advertise or neglect to mention what services they actually provide.

At any rate, it's good to see that Austin is standing up to the CPCs and not letting them get away with such deceptions.

Wow. As down as I've been on Texas being in the thrall of the fundies, I love that so many people in Austin aren't standing for it.
