Ads - Sponsored V-Gift Controversy

Aug 17, 2007 22:19

The ongoing controversy surrounding ads on the LiveJournal site has erupted again with the latest news post. *pout*

Along with one innovative genius who figured the sole person responsible for Pepsi's takeover should be the one to receive it with grace (*psst*cough*joydtaylor*cough).

I want to go down in the annals of time. I promise I'm over 18. And will not illustrate that. On LiveJournal.

Is that the person who is behind the Pepsi sponsorship stuff? The journal looks like a placeholder - not very substantial stuff there.

Yeah, all employees who work directly with LJ get an "employee" journal so they can communicate with the userbase - well, those who weren't users before.

Remember pmmarcov? She replaced her. And, yes, she crunches the numbers and sells the demographics to advertisers and actively makes deals for advertisers. Pmmarcov even seemed to be selling the LiveJournal folks on how much advertising would invigorate their user base and the users would be EXCITED AND LOVE IT. She had a rough time, especially at first. Read lj_ads from the beginning of the archive (complete with comments from me, I'm sure).

Unless the staff page is really that out of date. There's two on there that have left, I'm pretty sure, who are still up there.

Maybe I can google to see about news articles on any staff changes... as soon as I finish cutting some raw data into an Excel spreadsheet from the current poll. It's fascinating!

"Sponsorship is different from ads". Worth mentioning?

Ads also come in the form of one sponsored mood theme and several sponsored layouts, which were introduced in May 2007 with little fuss, I believe, because people were going crazy about the new logged-in homepage. This post explains how to block the sponsored mood icons.
