I have the feeling your're getting those errors when it's trying to download comments, right? Have no fear, This version will update both entries and comments!
For a while LJArchive was buggy and wasn't doing comments because LJ changed its source code and the guy who write LJArchive wasn't updating it anymore.
But then someone took pity and fixed it, and now it works great.
In fact, your post just reminded me to back up my LJ, so I did, and it worked fine. I see my most recent posts, and I see in my archive, for example, my post from yesterday and all the comments just fine.
(I asked because my error message looks like this:
ljArchive Error: EF.ljArchive.Engine.ExpectedSyncException: An expected exception occurred: ServerNotResponding ---> System.Net.WebException: The remote name could not be resolved: 'www.livejournal.com' at System.Net.HttpWebRequest.GetRequestStream(TransportContext& context) at System.Net.HttpWebRequest.GetRequestStream() at CookComputing.XmlRpc.XmlRpcClientProtocol.Invoke(Object clientObj, String methodName, Object[] parameters) at XmlRpcProxy1e10f8b4-bb42-498b-9d9c-d8c1d8c81f59.GetChallenge() at EF.ljArchive.Engine.Sync.Login(OptionsRow or, ILJServer iLJ, LoginResponse& lr, String& communityPicURL) at EF.ljArchive.Engine.Sync.ThreadStart() --- End of inner exception stack trace ---
Probably related to some of the other comments, I lost the ability to dowload comments for all entries after 24/10/2012 - I've just tried removing, removing the archive, reinstalling, etc. with exactly the same results.
The error message I get is
The server does not support exporting comments. You can turn off the option to export comments in Edit-Journal Settings
The detailed error message is
EF.ljArchive.Engine.ExpectedSyncException: An expected exception occurred: ExportCommentsNotSupported ---> System.Net.WebException: The remote server returned an error: (502) Bad Gateway. at System.Net.HttpWebRequest.GetResponse() at EF.ljArchive.Engine.Sync.ExportCommentsBody(OptionsRow or, ILJServer iLJ, SessionGenerateResponse sgr, Int32 serverMaxID, Int32 localMaxID, CommentCollection cc) at EF.ljArchive.Engine.Sync.ThreadStart() --- End of inner exception stack trace ---
The last entry with comments showing is #3598, if that's significant. I can't see anything odd about it or subsequent messages.
Hi, don't know if you are still trying. I downloaded the program from sourceforge, and disabling the 'with comments' option seems to make the 'doctype' exception go away.
I logged into LJ for the first time in a million years, just to comment here: the version of LJArchive linked to above seems to have A VIRUS.
I downloaded it, scanned it with Webroot (a paid antivirus program that so far hasn't thrown up any false positives for me) and got a threat warning. The setup.zip apparently contains something called "Pua.Pullupdate". I deleted it posthaste.
I'm still looking for working LJ archive tools, if I can find a clean working version I'll let you know. If anyone else has more info I'd love to see that too.
