Chart comparison for owner/maintainer/moderator?

Mar 25, 2012 00:46

Would it be useful to have a table in 225, 330, or 332 (or maybe all of them) showing the differences between what an owner, maintainer, and moderator can do? Something like this, with appropriate cross-linking as necessary:

Version 4

Community settings
Owner
Maintainer
Moderator

Rename community

I think it would be useful. I had to explain what Moderators could not do compared to Maintainers a few times to my Co-Maintainers.

I did not know that Moderators could Create, edit, and delete entry tags. I thought only the Maintainers could do that, no matter what options has been set. Are you sure about this ? I think it depends on the settings of the community.

Because if a Maintainer set the option of "Who can create new tags and add/remove tags from entries?" on the Manage Tags page to "Maintainers Only" I don't think that the Moderators could create new tags. I think they can only do that if it's set to either "Any user" or "Members Only".

The second option "Who can add existing tags to entries?" is the only one to allow Moderators to add existing tags, no matter which options is chosen.

You're right. I cribbed from the line from 332 about: "Moderators do not have the ability to change any settings in the community or to delete entries once they have been approved from the moderation queue, but they can approve or deny membership requests, delete and screen comments, and add/remove tags." Tag management will probably need to be broken out into two separate lines. Comment management too, I'll experiment a bit tomorrow.

Okay, tested (and bug discovered) and chart edited (version 2). I think we can condense it a bit, and probably make the yes, no, and kind of distinctions clearer, but it's a pretty good start.

Nice, version 3 is my favorite. It seems that we can see much faster what we are looking for with the seperated categories.

Yes. Yes it would. Wall of text is generally less understandable than image, and we can always retain the text next to the table.

That looks very useful indeed!

Version 4 is up, I'm looking to add this to both 330 and 332.
