DO. NOT. WANT.

Give us a permanent opt out option on this ugly wanna-be tumblr friends list disaster please.

Then again, I suppose this explains everything: http://www.dailydot.com/news/livejournal-shut-down-us-office/

I agree with tygress. Ugh, do not want. The only reason I even visit LJ at all is to read my friends list, everything else I do through another service. With this ugliness eventually being forced upon us will-you-nil-you, I may just RSS my friends from here and give up LJ entirely. We'll see how it pans out.

THIS!

You (LJ staff) keep on giving me more and more reasons to switch to Dreamwidth with every damn undesired change...would it REALLY be so hard to give us a opt out option?

It's like: "Here, try this out! Don't like it? Well, boo hoo, this is how it will look like anyway and you can cry all you want."

*sigh* Yes, that link does explain a lot.

Except it doesn't. The Russian community likes their "improvements" about as much as everyone.

Yes, I realise that, reading all the Russian comments on the situation. But I think doing away with the US office makes it even easier on the owners to simply do what they want without caring about the wishes of their users, be they Russian or from anywhere else.

Frankly, it's a bit hard for me to see how having an office in the US or not affects the owner's attitude toward the entirety of the service's users. What's the link?

We're of a different opinion, then. And which link?

Between having an office in one of the countries where they operate and treating the users like people.

THIS!

At this point, I don't even care about explanations anymore. I just want to have an option to opt out the change that I (and thousands other LJ users) DO NOT WANT.

oh, why am I not surprised by that news. I guess we'll get that tumbler-list opt-out when we get the facebook opt-out. :-(

That link does not explain anything, actually. It just says that now the Russians control the majority of the LJ stuff. That doesn't mean that people from the US would never screw up if they were still in charge. That is silly and stupid assumption.

In your mind it explains nothing. In my mind, it explains why there is so little interest, feedback, or communication from LJ anymore to their US and European-based customers. Shutting down their US offices signals, to me, a death knell on there being any continued interest in satisfying or keeping that customer base. That doesnt make me RIGHT, of course, but with so little communication from them on WHY they insist on making these sorts of changes, all I have at the moment is what few facts are available to form my opinion with.
