new code

Jul 24, 2006 14:12

We're going to be putting new stuff on the site (a "code push") in just a few minutes; here's a list of the things that will be changing:

Bugfixes
  • Update to make ?style=mine respect the viewer's navigation strip setting, to override the journal's settings, if they have it on and the viewer has it off. Adding ?style=mine to a URL (or &style=mine if it has a ? in the URL) will display the journal/entry in your own style.
  • Fix to the bug where error messages would display with HTML escaped; HTML is now rendered properly in those errors
  • Updates to the birthday management options -- the display on your profile no longer looks odd if you don't specify every portion of the birthdate.
  • Updates to the email gateway to allow for pictureposting from T-Mobile to go through properly
  • Updated http://www.livejournal.com/news.bml to remove lj_test and featureannounce and list lj_releases
  • Removing all the broken numbers from the voicepost numbers pages (in particular, the Michigan numbers), as we weren't able to get them fixed, unfortunately.
  • Removing the "renew your account now!" button from http://www.livejournal.com/manage/payments/ for permanent account holders
  • Fixed the bug where the mass-action delete/screen form at the bottom of site-scheme comment pages disappeared

Updates/Enhancements
  • More updates to the event subscription backend code, which will allow you to subscribe to "events" on the site and get notifications for them.
  • Moving the Bloggish theme stylesheets to LiveJournal, so that outages on TypePad (where the stylesheets were hosted previously) don't affect users' layouts here.
  • Updates to the betanav site scheme, reflecting a small portion of the feedback that's been received so far.
  • The FAQ search item in the drop-down at the top of the site schemes got moved up towards the top.
  • More work on allowing videos to be posted from YouTube and Photobucket, along with bugfixes to make sure that (for example) autoplay is prohibited. (Videos should only play when you explicitly hit the "play" button.)
  • Simplification of the way accounts are created: http://www.livejournal.com/create.bml now prompts for basic data, and then subsequent pages allow you to set the initial friends (news, lj_maintenance, tipoftheday), account level, recommended communities, ad settings (if applicable).
  • Updates to various feature matrices to indicate that polls are available to Plus users
  • Indicating entry security within users' RSS feeds.
  • Allowing "lj-location" header to be used when posting via email
  • Plus users can set their ad display preferences: starting now, the default display will be two leaderboard ads, one across the top and one across the bottom, but people can switch between that and the current arrangement (ads on the side, link unit across the bottom) at http://www.livejournal.com/manage/payments/adsettings.bml. These options are only available for users in S2.
  • Updated all the S2 system layouts to allow for horizontal ads, if the user chooses to use that.
  • Removing the page http://www.livejournal.com/voicepost/about.bml and instead pointing the (?) link on voiceposts to http://www.livejournal.com/support/faqbrowse.bml?faqid=183

Running list of issues
  • FIXED: Flexible Squares (and perhaps other styles?) is displaying incorrectly, with a lot of blank space at the top -- we're looking into that right now.
  • FIXED: Birthdays aren't showing properly; you can fix it by going to http://www.livejournal.com/manage/profile/, setting whether you want to display your birthday, and saving changes. We're looking into this to fix it on our end.

As always, if there's anything weird going on, feel free to comment here and I'll make sure it's taken care of.

We've taken care of everything resulting from this code update. If you'd like to report a problem with LiveJournal, please open a Support request
