Last night I hacked together a Greasemonkey script so that anyone affected by the grey comment button problem can post a comment. Any comments or questions, ask me at my journal entry.

I'm pretty sure that back then the problem with the "Add a comment" button being greyed out was only happening for people who had installed the Greasemonkey script that removed the buttons to post to Facebook/Twitter/etc. Once the script was disabled (and it wasn't needed any more as the buttons didn't exist on the new form!), the button would work again.
Of course, that's unlikely to be an issue nowadays, but I'm not really using LJ any more so I don't know. Still, thought you might appreciate the update. :)
