I was with you all with sympathy and /hugs until this:

"I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it." -Evelyn Beatrice Hall

I hope you're joking. I hope you know the actual quote is Voltaire, and it's: "I disagree with what you have to say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it."

Call me a snob, but what even.

Actually, I'm trusting my degree in political theory from a prestigious UK university in which Voltaire was required reading. Wikipedia happens to be correct. it regularly is, its accuracy rate is as good if not better than printed encyclopedias. Because people like me who know some subjects at expert level keep an eye on various things.

I hate waving credentials around, but, y'know, I've got them.

Hey no worries. That's why I tend to trust books more than anything I read/see on the internet because not everyone who updates stuff on Wikipedia or IMDB have credentials to wave around. They're just average Joes who want to beef up their fav "insert whatever here" on those sites.

However, technically we're all sorta right. LOL It may not be a direct quote from Voltaire but she did paraphrase what he said. :D

Yeah, but they actually made a test on accuracy a while ago and Wikipedia did better than some of the written encyclopedias. It's the wisdom of many: with encyclopedias, there are only a couple of people collecting the information, with Wikipedia there are so many, that someone will catch a mistake sooner or later. (Although it's always a good thing to check out the references, just in case).

Good to know. Still not sure I trust most sites on the internets though. ;)

If it's her paraphrasing (or "borrowing") of Voltaire's concepts it then it's still a quote belonging to Hall. There's no "sorta right" here.
