Anything that ESN allows you to do can already be done by someone sitting and hitting refresh over and over.
Ideal development for the part-time or trainee stalker then, those who haven't yet found the dedication to sit and obsessively hit refresh... :)

[Friend got targeted by a mad obsessive fan the other day after making a throwaway comment about a particular celeb - we finally figured out that said MOF must sit and refresh Google Blog Search obsessively, looking for references. Following the same path ourselves to locate her comments it appeared that she does it for at least six hours at a stretch... oooof.]

The tools for userpic management are also not designed to work with as many userpics as we have now - the interfaces would positively crumble under 1000 userpics.

Is strengthening/redesigning those interfaces on any kind of priority list? (The question I submitted also had to do with userpics, so I'm particularly curious.)

It makes sense that userpics create a substantial load on the system, and that that would have to be addressed to add more, but it would be *really* nice.

Anyway, thanks very much for taking the time to answer specific questions. It's much appreciated.

Hi, I'm new but loving what ya'll are doing! Keep up the good work!

I have a quick question. I'm trying to change the layout of my LJ, not my journal entry. I know you have four suggested layouts for it, I was trying them out then all of a sudden I just couldn't find the button that would change the layout to the one I finally chose. Please help.

Thanks!

I think you're referring to the "site scheme," which is the layout of the LiveJournal pages (the ones that have the blue pencil and LJ logo). You can learn how to change that here: http://www.livejournal.com/support/faqbrowse.bml?faqid=186

Welcome to LiveJournal! :)

P.S. You might find this page helpful too, it has links to a lot of common things you might want to do.

I'm always stunned when people ask for more userpics. Even when I'm in a position to choose one (i.e. already logged in when I load the "update journal" page), I almost never remember to--the only reason I have as many as I do is that I go "hey, that would make a good icon" and add something a lot. Half of those have never been used outside of the "hey, I have a new icon" post.

I mean, being limited to three was kinda a pain, but c'mon, who needs more than ... I dunno, ten or twelve? It seems like the least that people could do if they really want dozens of userpics is to contribute a little cash to offset the increased server load. Alternatively, you could always get some free image hosting and just put 100x100 images in your posts. (Hey, I should write a site where people can do that!)

I don't actually have a question, just a mini-rant. :)

As someone with 8 userpics, I agree. I only ever use the one because it's my identity - people associate it with me. That's how they were meant to be (avatar-ish things), but now it's just insane what people are doing with them.

Whatever floats their boats, I guess. :-)

I like to have userpics as mood icons, too, but I definitely wouldn't need more than 40 for that...
