Hello!
As noted in our
news post a few days ago about the redesign, we want to get better about asking for your feedback on new feature ideas or upcoming changes prior to rolling them out. We'll be reviving this
lj_feedback community as part of that endeavor, and this 'new feature idea' post will get things started. (We're still monitoring the redesign post

That said, I just hope to avoid the opposite implied by a 'thumbs up' feature and that no correlatng 'thumbs down' is ever made.
And to echo everyone else: please don't make LJ into another Facebook -or- Tumblr. If I wanted my user experience to be like those two sites, I'd be there, not here.

I definitely agree with this, and consider it a very important point! +1ing sounds fun but I really dislike sites with the 'thumbs down' feature, cause it makes every comment almost like a poll of which opinion is more popular, what's expressed in the comment or the opposite of it. That just makes things annoying and makes the conversations feel like a battle. So, as long as it's just +1 and no -1 feature, sounds cool to me :)

That being said I probably wouldn't use this +1 thing at all (or only very seldom), but if it can be turned off and isn't displayed all over the place, I guess it's fine.
However, I would very much like to suggest for you to concentrate on things that have been broken for a long time and the basic code of LiveJournal instead of painting over the wounds of the site with sparkling paint...

I don't mind the lack of a +1 feature, and nor do I think I would mind having that feature, but I want to be able to keep reading comments in the order they appear now, and I don't want the feature to be in-your-face. I'd prefer if the comment score and the +1 button were small and unobtrusive.
I'd also prefer to receive email notification of +1s to my comments or entries, as I currently receive them for replies. I mean, some of those replies literally read "+1", so I don't feel like I'm necessarily always more interested in hearing about comments than about likes. IMO, though, it should be a separate setting, not rolled up into receiving emails about replies, because that's the only way to make this feature even slightly more useful than the current comment system, which is working fine and doesn't need to be changed.
