goodbye :(

As you may have heard, there has been a number of layoffs in the San Francisco office, including the entire design team. I just wanted to say goodbye and thank you to everyone who has been a part of this community. I know a lot of times, it seemed like your comments weren't being read or heard, but believe me, they were. I promise you, I read every ( Read more... )

I can't tell you how sorry I am to hear that you were caught up in the layoffs. You've done such great work, and your love for LJ has been so clear. I hope I will still see you around the communities. But your professional contributions will be sorely missed.

It's my "I Love LJ" icon! One of the best!

(It was made by mesongles, and you may gank it too if you attribute it to her.)

Thank you for your work on LJ and for always being open and helpful in your dealings with the users. And to you and the rest of the design team, good luck in your next ventures.

I somehow never imagined that the layoffs would affect a lively place like LJ....I would like to thank you, and everyone else, who has made this a great place to be for people like me.

Sad that I never got to know you while you were here....I must say hi just to say goodbye.

You've done a great job. I hope you get another great job.

I'm really sorry to hear about the layoffs, especially since I was one of the ones bitching. It really sounds like you cared about the site a great deal, as do a lot of us. It impressed me that you took the time to address one of our concerns in your final post and that you wrote such a heartfelt goodbye to the people who were probably mostly a thorn in your side. I hope that you get a great job at a place you love even more than lj and that your next bosses don't put you in the line of fire the way that I'm pretty sure lj did to you here. From the timeline you included in your note, it sounds to me like you were responsible for what I liked about lj and probably fighting about the same things I was (I hope).

I do care a great deal. I was so ecstatic when I found out I'd be working on LJ, and for a long time, couldn't imagine doing anything else. I still can't, and have no idea what else I'd be *happy* doing for a living.

"...the people who were probably mostly a thorn in your side."
I'd be lying if I said reading through comments wasn't extremely frustrating at times, but really, I would have been scared if there weren't any complaints since to me, that'd mean people stopped caring and that's a lot worse. Also, the volume of negative comments had been going down over time and that was pretty amazing.

There were a lot of things I fought, sometimes it was hard to separate out being a user vs. being an employee. Didn't always win, but I fought.

eta: Didn't mean for that last part to sound like everything coming down the pipeline was bad. There were decisions I really liked too.

Not a staff member here, but I wanted to comment on one thing...

It really sounds like you cared about the site a great deal, as do a lot of us.

It gets lost in the things that upper management do sometimes, but for the most part, it's the staff that show themselves as post authors, etc. who really *do* care about the site. The ones who are real users of the site. I find that the ones who don't keep a journal here normally don't post anywhere official either.
