We started working on the vertical version of the new site scheme. Vertigo is the sibling to Horizon, and its look and feel and functionality is a cross between Horizon and Dystopia. We've mocked this up, and would like your feedback on it. A few of the points we're specifically interested in:

Thank you for making a feedback poll-as a longtime Dystopia user, I appreciate it. :)

i think it's a shame that vertical navigation isn't used more, especially now that so many people have widescreen monitors. there are countless studies showing that your eyes can't focus on lines of text more than 60 characters long. so either you shove everything into the middle, generator-style, and have a lot of dead space, or you use that space for something else (like navigation).

Updating the links in LJ for these new schemes is nice, but I do occasionally have a hard time finding something that used to be more prominent. "Manage links" for instance. Maybe with this design you'll have room to fit a couple more things like that in.

Do you mean in the site pages, or in the main navigation? I'm pretty sure "manage links" wasn't ever part of the main navigation.

Anyway, I just looked again, I can't find that link anywhere in Horizon, and it's not on the current main site map. However, if I use overall site viewing options and go back to Xcolibur, I can find the manage links list under Manage Account, immediately. So, it looks like that link just got dropped completely in Horizon.

Don't assume that text takes the same amount of space on every user's system. Use relative spacing, not absolute.
