^LOL. You should tell you're Russian employees that there is this tool out there called Google translate.
I would really like to see LJ users organize themselves somehow and mass-set their journals to basic accounts, or just outright move over to another service - because until LJ Users as a whole start working together this guy is right.
Everyone gets mad for a few days and then everything goes back to normal. Livejournal has no reason to think that they will actually lose money in the long term because even though the users are always complaining - there are no monetary repercussion to the company for their bad decisions.
Exactly. But honestly? This isn't the first time they mess up and I'm fairly sure it won't be the last one. At least in my close circles, most people who wanted to move, did so the moment DW opened to the public and they've never looked back. Most people complaining here are users who in the past have set up accounts over there/imported their journals, but who in the end come back once things calm down over here.
If any of this is happening it is, sadly, partially because the userbase has always been forgiving with LJ.
I moved to DW but ended up coming back simply because there are few really active communities there (At least at the time I was there.)
If users could organize and move en-masse either Livejournal knocks it off, or we all can enjoy a better company without losing the whole community xD It's my fantasy I guess.
Dreamwidth has pretty happenin' since September. It depends on the fandom, alas.
Final Fantasy fandom's been migrating across for the past year due to past LJ-fails over the past year, and pretty much all of us post on DW and just have the crosspost setting to make sure we don't lose any old LJ friends who haven't moved over yet.
As a syasadmin and network engineer IRL...This has me seeing fucking red right now.
You implement a change that a majority of users rise up and go off their tits you do one of two things:
1) You roll back the change. 2) if the change cannot be rolled back (due to necessity or due to nature of change) you then advise your users of why it took place
You don't sit there and go "ahahah stupid fucking users" (well you do but YOU DON'T DO IT IN A FUCKING PLACE WHERE THEY CAN FIND OUT)
This is basic goddamn tech work. 101. First day shit. If you cannot comprehend even the most basic of elements in regards to running your IT infrastructure, you should not be anywhere fucking near it.
Oh man, yes. Right now I basically do the same job as these guys do (reworking a website that a lot of people use - not nearly as many as LJ, though), and I will readily admit that when making certain changes we knew the users would be startled and confused by, my boss and I and the rest of the team did have the "Heh, too bad! They'll get used to it and then they'll realize how much better this works" discussions.

In our own locked building.
With our voices.
Publically, we politely explained that we were changing X because X had been broken/was only a temporary measure in the first place/wasn't built to accomodate Y/etc., and here's where you can go to to find the new X and Y, and we apologized for the inconvenience.
And users did get used to it. But we also weren't removing functionality, but changing it to work better with older browsers and slower connections and screenreaders and so on.
OK. That pisses me off even more. I'm done. Non-renewal is now inevitable. Fucking arrogant bastards! I guess we should expect no less from the still apparently COMMUNIST Russians!
GOD BLESS THE FREE MARKET! I'm moving to a new social network!
