I must agree; I don't think I've ever met quite so many strange or exciting characters in one place. Do forgive me if we haven't been formally introduced; I'm Marian Halcombe.
I suppose it's not much for me to say, really. I grew up in the country with my sister; we never had many visitors, and the ones we did tended to be incurably dull. I suppose most anyone is a welcome change from that. Though, this place is odd even compared to London, and I always thought my time there might be the most adventurous experience I'd ever have-Oh, how I do go on! You must forgive me, Miss Bennet, I have a terrible habit of beginning to talk and forgetting to stop.
Oh, it is quite all right. I grew up in the country as well, with my father, mother and my four dear sisters. I enjoyed the company there very much, but it was nothing at all compared to this place.
