Another Yankee comes to see what the hub bub is all about .
I'm pleased you like it, I'm a (damn) Yankee born & bred, passed through So. Cal. in the Summer of 1969 and moved here in 1970, it's a _really_ weird place to be sure, I'd not live in any of the places you visited for free, it takes some doing to have a normal life here .
If ever you return, go to Venice Beach, it's beautiful and crazy at the same time .
I had planned to go to Venice Beach, but the friend I was going to meet there had to cancel and I just ended up at Santa Monica Pier after putting too vague instructions into Waze. Next time!
Yes, California is different. We have visited a couple of times. I have always been amazed at the coast where the mountains meet the sea, not like the eastern seaboard at all. Plus the huge amount of huge driftwood. When my daughter & I flew in, rented a car to check out some college campus'. We went the first week in August. I was expecting hot and sunny but, we didn't get that. The hillsides were golden brown. I am so not used to that after living in the NE, PNW and mid-Atlantic. I'm glad you went.

Good ! .
Glad to hear you're coming back, there's -so- much to do and see here .
Most of my New England friends are scared to come here for various reasons like having watched "Gidet" movies in 1964 and so on .
Yes, this very much _is_ a crazy place but it's also very nice for those who take the time to manage their lives .
Lots and lots of pretty country and back roads an hour out side of Los Angeles too plus treasures await North and South .
