A few minutes ago, I was sitting here watching CBS Sunday Morning when I heard a loud noise in the driveway. I thought at first it was my downstairs neighbors, who can be, let us say, exuberant. Then I heard it again, and my brain registered that it was a bird. A big bird. It was a turkey. I grabbed my camera and ran out in my slippers to catch her

A wild turkey! Oh, wow!

Turkeys are very much a farmyard bird over here and I have trouble getting my head round the notion that such a big noisy bird lives wild over there...

They're very common now, and can be a nuisance as they're quite aggressive. I've seen them gang up on people. I'm not intimidated by large birds (I've been nipped at by swans and geese), but I avoid them if I see a large group. No need to tempt fate. ;)

i love the turkey pic. We have lots around here but they're always too fast for me to get a picture of.

This one almost got away from me! I think she heard my footsteps on the snow as I rushed across the deck.
