We put ours in last night, too. It's about the size of yours and helps keep the bedroom, kitchen, and office cool. It's not powerful enough to reach out to the living room of this sprawly house, but we have fans for that.

I can relate to the desperation of needing sleep.

There are definitely advantages to having a small apartment!

Mine is just a tiny bit larger than yours, but it cools down the room I sleep in to quiltworthy chill, and the rest of the apartment to a pleasant level of coolth. A/C is truly the gift of the freeze gods! Good for you!

How hot is it there? I sure don't envy you the humidity!

Around 90 degrees, give or take a couple degrees. Very high humidity, which is what gets to me.

It is AMAZING what a difference it makes to have an a/c in the bedroom (or I guess any other one room). Blessed relief!

It truly is. I don't know how people made it through the summer before it was invented. How did people live in Florida in the summer?

I always understood "btu" to be the abbreviation for "British Thermal Unit", which over here has been replaced by the joule. :) Googling suggests that I'm correct and it's a measure of heat input -- or in this case, heat extraction.

Thankfully we don't need air conditioning over here. If it ever does warm up, I just open the window in my study and the one on the landing and get a nice through draught. Also, since we had the cavity wall insulation done, the house not only stays a lot warmer in winter, but it's noticeably colder in the summer.

That sounds familiar. I think I knew that once.

I don't think temperatures are as extreme where you are. You're lucky! I'd much rather have the windows open.
