I really haven't given a lot of thought to preparing for this so-called FrankenStorm that's heading our way. We're not on the coast, and it looks like it will hook around us and not hit us directly, so I was prepared for some minor inconvenience, perhaps losing power at most ( Read more... )

I think they have to overstate it, for CYA reasons. But admittedly it also has some serious potential. Heck, we're getting pretty high winds here in SW FL, which isn't even near Sandy. It's hard when you've just moved and gods know where your stuff all is...but I would suggest making sure you had what you need to get through a power outage. I would guess that loss of power is going to be the most likely scenario for regions on the fringes.

I haven't actually moved in yet, I'm still at my friends' house. Which is good, because she shops for Armageddon regularly, so we're well stocked! ;)

I hope your boss is just being ultra-cautious, but even if you only catch the edge of it where you are, driving in high winds can be dangerous and if the power goes out, you'll have run the risk of falling trees for nothing. I hope everything turns out not as bad as the forecast.

I hope so, too. The governor has declared a state of emergency and asked all non-essential people to stay home, so that's probably why they closed.
