So you know how I've been complaining about my extended essay? Well it turns out that good things came out of it. I came up with a wonderful idea for an AU story where all the characters from Star Trek *are* the characters from Sense and Sensibility. I realize there is probably a very small fanbase that enjoys both Star Trek and Sense and Sensibility, but I am part of it. So here's a quick outline of what's going on in my head:
- Spock (Elinor), James T. Kirk (Marianne), and Young Kirk (Margaret) are sisters.
- Their father is George Kirk and dies early in the book. Kirk is left with no father figure or inheritance.
- Their mother is Amanda Grayson. She is emotional, but truly cares for her children.
- Spock meets Uhura (Edward Ferrars) and it is love at first sight. Kirk is annoyed that he only "regards" her.
- But Spock doesn't know that Uhura ia already engaged to T'Pring (Lucy), a different Vulcan.
- The family is forced to move from Vulcan to Riverside, Iowa...
- ...Where Scotty (Mrs. Jennings) tries to get all of them married off. He is in love with the USS Enterprise, which is a metaphor for marriage.
- Kirk thinks that Doctor McCoy (Colonel Brandon) is too old and grumpy for them to have a relationship.
- "Dammit, Marianne. I'm a Doctor, not a Colonel!"
- Then Kirk is swept off his feet by Willoughby, as played by...(cue romantic music)...
- ...THE KOBAYASHI MARU. The red flashing lights give him a thrill and he knows that someday he will win.
- But he doesn't know that the Kobayashi Maru has already left hundreds of cadets empty inside.
- Including Gaila, Doctor McCoy's ward. She disappeared and no one knows where she is.
- Meanwhile, Spock has talked to T'Pring. She told him that she and Uhura were engaged. No one was prepared for the consequences.
- Spock went into Pon Farr too early and started going Hulk on T'Pring's ass.
- Kirk was called in to calm him down, but he had promised not to tell T'Pring's secret to anyone.
- "It has to do with - biology" "What kind of biology?" "Vulcan - biology"
- Then Spock Prime, the creator of the Kobayashi Maru, finds out what it did to Gaila and disowns it.
- "It was most illogical of you to get that young woman pregnant"
- So it leaves Kirk behind and he fails the test for the first time
- Chekov and Sulu (Mrs and Mr Palmer) come to visit Mrs. Jennings and they all decide to go to London together
- Then at a fancy party, Kirk sees the Kobayashi Maru with the Genesis Project, from Wrath of Khan
- "KHAAAAAAAAAANNNNN" He fails the test for a second time and is sent to the sickbay.
- Bones helps nurse him back to health and together they beat the Kobayashi Maru
- In an inspired burst of stupidity, T'Pring tells Nero (Mrs Ferrars) that she is engaged to Uhura
- Nero: "What? How dare you? I'm going to disown you and blow up Vulcan just for the hell of it"
- T'Pring decides she'd rather marry Stonn, which leaves Uhura free to propose to Kirk
- All of the couples:
- Spock and Uhura
- Kirk and Bones
- Chekov and Sulu
- Scotty and the Enterprise
- The Kobayashi Maru and the Genesis Project
- T'Pring and Stonn
- George Kirk and Amanda Grayson
- Christopher Pike and Ayel
