Well, there is certainly a difference between pulp novels of ANY sort, and things with actual literary content.

If they are turning their noses up on science fiction literary books, well, shame on THEM.

My children's lit class was like that... read and discuss. We also had a couple of papers and one presentation thrown in as well.

My favorite class was this seminar, where we had to read something someone wrote, write one page on it (and submit it online the night before the seminar. However, we could see everyone's and could summarize. we weren't even graded on them), listen to the writer for an hour, and then have a 2 hour discussion (where if you were over 21 you could drink beer the professor brought -- which were awesome foreign beers.

I got an A! :)

Okay, so this is going to sound horribly, terribly nerdy....but that class sounds SO AWESOME!!!!! ;D I am all about sci fi (I still love the Bi-Mon Sci fi Con from Simpsons, heh ;))

I would totally love to attend this. Seriously? It's like a book club, but you get credit for it! Woot ;)

Ender's Game is one of my favorite books. I've read it for a college class and a book discussion...and I see something different each time I read it. The book is genius. Have you read it before? If not, you have to let me know what you think!

Or better yet, when you are reading it. I might re-read the book along with you. Like an on-line discussion group or something. (I can be such a dork about some things.)

And if you like Ender's Game, you need to read the next book in the series, Speaker for the Dead, after the class is over.

actually, that book is the "if we have time after the other three novels" book, so I don't know if we'll get to that one or not!

But I'll probably give it a go even if we don't get to it.
