I hit other for all because I really don't know how I feel about babies on a TV show. But I love that Leslie and Ben are at least discussing having kids because logically they should. Married couple, late 30s, want a family... that would need to happen sooner rather than later.

Also I need to watch the episode again because honestly I tuned a lot of the Ann and Chris stuff out. I don't particularly want them to be together but I'm not furious about it because I've liked Chris more this season.

I don't mind the Ann/Chris baby because Ann really wants a kid.

From a logical standpont, a baby for Leslie and Ben makes sense. I'm just worried that it is going to interfere with Leslie's career and worklife, which is one of the main driving points of the show (besides her friendships and her relationship with Ben).

I think if anyone could make two jobs and a baby work, Leslie could. I say that as someone who is deeply ambivalent about babies in both show and life.

Agreed. It would make no sense to me if they didn't discuss having kids. Actually, I'm surprised they haven't discussed it already. It's the sort of conversation you have before you get married.

I think my hope is that Ann and Chris magically fail to have a baby. I could be happy with Leslie and Ben having a baby or not. And I'm terrified of the idea of Andy + baby, but I think it makes sense for them to have a kid or seven. Like they'd screw up birth control (after the episode last year where they had no idea how doctors work, I was wondering how they hadn't screwed up birth control already) and then they'd both be like "well, what if we had a baby?" and then they'd have a baby.

I've also had thoughts about Leslie and Ben adopting (because logically they might have problems conceiving) but decided it probably wouldn't happen that way because that's what 30 Rock did.

I feel like where they're going with Ann and Chris is that they won't go through with the insemination but then Ann will end up pregnant anyway. Anyone else getting that vibe?

(I'm unspoiled btw for future episodes)

I'd be super happy with a Ben and Leslie baby.

Yes, I think that is absolutely true.

I was thinking the same thing too since they did say she was ovulating that day.

Man, I felt like they were beating us over the head with that and I hope it doesn't happen because it's not exactly realistic that a woman in her mid-to-late 30s (i am assuming that's Ann's age range) would get pregnant on the first try. It's not impossible, just kind of unrealistic.

It's more likely that April, being in her early/mid 20s, would get pregnant the first month of trying.

I...don't really care. I don't think either baby is necessary, if that makes sense, but I don't hate the idea either, I guess. I'm sort of aggressively apathetic about it all. Just give me more character development for the adult characters please.

I guess that's why I care? The babies are going to take time away from Parks business and non-baby related character goals.

I have nothing against babies, I just don't think they have a good track record on TV.

Oh man remember Up All Night?

I think everyone involved in Up All Night is trying to forget it.

But I think Parks could pull off a baby plot, especially if we only get one more season.

Yeah, it could work if the show has a firm end date/end gameplan in sight.

I would like Leslie and Ben to have a baby, although I don't want to see it be the center of the show. I don't think having a child necessarily equates to Leslie giving up her dreams and career goals, and I think a baby - if handled the right way - is less problematic in a workplace comedy than in a family life-driven comedy like Modern Family or Up All Night.

I don't want Ann and Chris to have a child together. Not as a couple, anyway. I saw very little chemistry between them in tonight's episode and I would prefer they stay friends.

I think I should clarify - I don't think that Leslie having a baby will equate to her putting her career goals on the back burner. I think she would be able to do both things.

However, from a narrative standpoint, I'm concerned because babies don't really fit well in workplace comedies. I don't want this to be a situation when the characters go through pregnancies, put the babies in day care, and then they are forgotten.

Although I wouldn't want it to become the focus of the show, I think Parks writers could make it work. The nature of the Parks dept. serving families lends itself to the occasional family-oriented storyline. Maybe a year or so down the road Leslie and Ben want to get their kid in a popular baby swim class but Leslie has a City Council vote that day and Ben has something going on at work and they both forget to register. Does Leslie use her Parks clout to jump the waiting list, or does she let it go? Like you, I don't want babies if they are just going to be shuttled off to daycare and forgotten.

I think Scrubs was a good example of a workplace comedy where the babies and kids of main characters were not the main focus once they arrived on the scene, but they worked well when they were integrated into particular storylines.

Since Amy Poehler has a rockin' career and two young children, I definitely think it would be portrayed as something that didn't take away at all from her career goals. And I agree--I think it would be easier to do on a workplace show, because the baby would be at daycare a lot and wouldn't have to be part of many of the plots. Maybe sometimes we'd see Ben at city events supporting Leslie with a baby in a backpack carrier, just as a reminder they have one.
