My life makes perfect sense

I always carry two rubber balls to the park. Two reasons: one, Spike loses them, and two, Squish also wants to play ball and Spike's head explodes if Squish ever has a ball while he doesn't. That is a violation of the natural order of things and is never, ever permitted to happen. The biggest regret of Spike's life is that his pointy, narrow muzzle ( Read more... )

Spike is turning into Bear. She's done that sort of thing for years. She has some arcane method of choosing the "in" tennis ball for today / five minutes / whatever, and equally obscure reasons for deciding said ball is completely unacceptable tomorrow / five minutes later / whatever. Confront her with a choice and she'll swap among them until she finds the "right" one. Throw her the "wrong one" and she'll chase it, but fling it aside when she's within a few metres of me and immediately seek out the "right" one. And she's a highly accomplished pickpocket.

Gotta love 'em.

hehehe, Puppy does the same thing. we've got at least 20 tennis balls laying around, and he KNOWS which two are the special two he shall play with at this given moment. throw a different one and he'll chase it, discover it isnt one of the chosen two, and leave it behind to search out the correct ones.

Puppy says Spike should never give up trying to carry more than one ball. it could happen, i mean Puppy figured it out, and his classy moves are running into glass doors and accidentally rolling off the couch, repeatedly.

Puppy has a broader, lippier mouth than Spike does, though; it's the retriever in him. Spike has a pointy long nose even by Border Collie standards, I don't think he'll ever get the knack.

But he rolls off the couch too, when he's doing that "wriggle on my back in snorfling ecstasy" thing. Love that.

theres something quite endearing about watching them continually roll off the couch. maybe its that we know they are going to fall off before they do it.

I think Spike & Faust are soul brothers across the ocean. Faust is so ball-obsessive it's crazy... He used to even sleep with the ball in his mouth, he was so insanely into his ball. I have to hide all the balls in the house until I'm ready for him to have it, or he'll pick fights with the others to keep them away from them.
