OMFG that was hard. And TrekBBS down too, just when I'd started posting there again after weeks and weeks of not even clicking on it.

I've been back at TerranBBS as well. I've become so sucked into LJ that I've felt very disinclined to post anywhere else for a long time, but I had the bright idea of talking some of my LJ ( Read more... )

well, knowing me I'll just accumulate fluff in a bag for a year and then never do a damn thing with it, but at the moment hope is triumphing over experience - and at least it's a way of making sure I remember to brush Spike a lot. His fur never mats so I'm inclined to forget it for weeks at a time otherwise.

you might like Terranbbs. there's a fair bit of book discussion - sci-fi, fantasy and otherwise...

Spinning dog hair into yarn! Let me tell you a funny story.

Back in the mid '90s, I was on my way to Michigan to visit Bob's folks. A friend of mine who lived there did her own spinning, and having three Pyrenean Mountain Dogs at the time I told her I would bring her some hair. So I put the hair/wool in a bag with some other stuff for her and went to board the plane.

The security lady takes the bag and without even looking in it goes, "Okay, what's in here?"

"Uh, books, VHS tapes and dog hair."

"DOG HAIR???!!!!"

The woman dropped the bag on the floor and started shaking.

"No, it's okay, it's for spinning into yarn, it's clean!"

She looked at me as if she were about to be sick, and said, "I believe you, but get it out of here!"

I used to put clumps of my dog's hair under the bushes in the spring time for the birds to use as material for nests.

Yes, I've done that too - and with moulted hawk feathers, which is rather amusing. I think a scarf'll be even cooler though.
