More bad news.Anyone who read Joey's story and cried - there's a whole colony of cats there in just as bad a shape. All our prayers and good thoughts couldn't save him but maybe we can save the others, maybe we can stop there being fifty more like him next kitten season ( Read more... )

Why do people hurt animals? Why are animals just tossed aside as if they aren’t living? Why do people allow animal suffering because they don’t feel animals are capable of feeling? Why do people treat animals like they can be disposed of? Do some people feel that if they dominate and hurt an animal that they are somehow superior? Does it make them feel good to hurt animals?

I can’t understand the mentality. I try to think about it- to give it a reason. I can't come up with any reason. I cannot understand why someone would hurt an animal or allow an animal get so ill it dies (especially when basic healthcare and feeding would prevent the animal from getting ill in the first place), or not give an animal shelter when it is needed, or any number of hideous things people do to animals.

I know, I know. You feel the same way, but it makes my heart hurt with despair.

In some cases it's just that - people use those weaker than themselves to make themselves look bigger. In this particular case it wasn't deliberate cruelty, it's an emotionally myopic lady who can't stop herself collecting feral cats but never thinks to have them speutered. She probably thinks of herself as their saviour and just doesn't let herself see the suffering.

Naamah's looking for a charity that'll help her trap, healthcheck and speuter the cats. I can't really help directly financially but I figure I can help by spreading the word.

Awwwwww! (sad about poor little Joey).

I thought your little comment at the end there "This is something we can try and prevent." was interesting commentary....though you might not have intended it that way.....I always had the feeling that man was going to get himself killed by one of his wild beasties....foreordained like.

crosses fingers for the rest of the kitty colony.

Agreed. He was awesome and the world is worse off without him, but you live by the sword, you die by the sword - I'm sad but not surprised.

I hope the cats can be sorted out though. I can't help directly but I can spread the word and maybe a few people reading this can.

Poor Joey and Naamah.

It's really sad he didn't make it.
