The Collected Works of Liza the Procrastonator

Well, my paid account for lady_smith is dead, and I never got around to making that moodtheme. Ugh, I'm such a procrastinator. Also, I occasionally get blocked in the worst way. And distracted ( Read more... )

I discovered I didn't remember most of the brilliant ideas I'd had for it and didn't take detailed enough notes back when I'd first had the idea.

I think that might as well be an offical motto for the finishathon. :)

I'm so proud of my Nine voice here,

It's very good Nine-voice. I can hear him perfectly.

AKA that @$#&@$ing Bracathon fic, AKA [info]astrogirl2's Scorpius/Braca/Sikozu smut

Heh. I had no idea it was going to be so difficult when I asked for it. :)

He doesn't whisper her name with his voice, and she doesn't moan his aloud in return. He's not running his hands over the soft and supple blue expanse of her. She doesn't shiver at the sensation of him sliding against her. He doesn't enter her with any physical part of his body and she doesn't throw her head back at the pleasure of feeling him enter her with love.

Wow, I am slightly disturbed by exactly how hot I find this. :)

John Crichton very much wanted to know where the hell their clothes were, and when they could have them back, please and thank you.

OK, you need ( ... )

Maybe, but you got finished. To be fair, the rest of my life blindsided me something harsh just then if I recall.

It's very good Nine-voice. I can hear him perfectly.

Wow, and I didn't even use any of the really... nine-y lines. ^_^

Heh. I had no idea it was going to be so difficult when I asked for it. :)

See, the problem isn't so much in the request (though really, somebody who actually liked Sikozu might have been a better mach, though she's grown on me since) - the real problem is that I have such a problem rewriting stuff I've already written. The other real problem was Miklo, who insisted on the porn, when I was gonna do all soft focus. ...naturally, what got zapped? Was the porn.

Wow, I am slightly disturbed by exactly how hot I find this. :)..when you think about it, it's pretty explicit - it's just that what it's describing isn't sex, though it IS sensuel. Our human mind tries to wrap itself around what's going on, and settles for the nearest ( ... )

Yeah, but getting started was kind of hard. I discovered that whatever I'd had in my head when I first came up with the idea had faded pretty badly.

the real problem is that I have such a problem rewriting stuff I've already written.

I know what you mean... I'm not sure I could do it at all. I'm hoping I never have to find out. (Fortunately, I tend to print out my WIPs whenever I stop writing, so that I've got a hardcopy to read over before I start again the next time. If worst came to worst and my computer ever goes belly-up without backup, I figure the most I'll probably have to do is retype.)

Good old Murphy. Sigh.

when you think about it, it's pretty explicit - it's just that what it's describing isn't sex, though it IS sensuel.

Weirdly, it wouldn't have been anywhere near as hot if it were sex.

Thank you, thank you, but perversely the other one is coming much easier.

Oh, well. I want to read that, too. :)

Your icon's doing just fine for you. ( ... )

You know, if my printer ink supply didn't hinge on spare money we frequently don't have I'd do that. Actuall, I did used to do that - for different reasons. I'd take hardcopies with me when I was gonna be away from the computer and wanted to work on something.

Weirdly, it wouldn't have been anywhere near as hot if it were sex.

It's somehow more intimate, isn't it? I think we frequently find that telepathic union stuff more appealing than the physical act - I mean, how many fics feature that as a trope? It's back to the whole "sex is 90% mental" again - getting into each other's heads is the ultimate.

Stark's good at that. :)Don't get me started on that boy. Though the most adorable thing my inner Stark did recntly was - I swear to god - SQUEE, when I was reading ( ... )

Yeah, that Nine and Sikozu one sounds fantastic!

And, Lorne! *squees about Lorne!fic*

I do like the prologue to the FS season six too. How John's got everything he wants, and is still lonely. Typical. I imagine the whole thing goes to heck in a handbasket not soon afterward, yeah?

*snerk* do you know, I don't think he ever says that, not once? Not yet, anyway.

And, Lorne! *squees about Lorne!fic*

I'm frankly consistantly amazed by how popular this is. Aren't there tons of LorneFics out there? And I mean, it's not even a Lorne fic, really. It's a Krevlorneswath (of the Deathwok clan, as my mike_mccall insists I add) fic. Subtly different, you know.

As Jacob on TWOP said so eloquently recently - it's not Earth John misses, it's people. I pat myself on the back for sussing this out long before he wrote that, though.

OH frell yes. Whormholes, unrealized realities, stowaways, Scarrens, Nebari, crazy game desingers, old freinds, old enemies, new freinds, new enemies... fun for the whole family.

I've hardly seen any. And, admittedly, I don't really hang around in those particular fannish circles, so it's not like I'd probably randomly stumble across them, but I looked.

*nods* I lurk occasionally on an Angel site, I belong to an Angel/Lindsey comm, and I follow the Crack Van recs. I assumed the lack of Lorne I ran into was me being in the wrong places, fandomly speaking, but if you looked - I'm gonna trust that it's just not out there to be found. Which is, when you think about it, really frelling weird.

Regarding the question of Jeanie and the Sue-ishness of her: granted in fanfic it's a question, I can't help but reflect that I spent the night reading an omnibus edition of three books whose central character is the biggest Gary Stu in the universe, using most definitions.

And I dare someone to walk up to Spider Robinson and point this out to him. You will be laughed at, and you will feel very foolish.

lizamanynames June 27 2006, 07:04:10 UTC
...now there is a whole can of worms I'm not sure I want to open. I've frequently talked in great length about what makes a Sue, and how the short and easy definitions have to be thrown out so's not to paint unfairly characters with the dreaded "Sue" label... but even by my nice, big, intricate definition, Jake is frequently pushing it.

Sometime, I think, Spider is a man who writes amazing books in spite of himself - he breaks all kinds of rules, does things I'd shoot myself in the face before doing, things I'd slap someone six ways from sunday in a beta for doing - but his books work. And I don't have the first fucking clue how.

Simple. He has good stories, a tale to tell about the human condition, and interesting characters, and he just does it.

In my opinion, most of crying "Sue!" is an inarticulate and annoying way of expressing an instinct that nobody but the author is interested in this character.

What exactly is wrong with that if it's true? If nobody cares about a character except the Author - it's a badly written character.

With respect to Jossing issues for "Stories My Mother Told Me" and "A Malfoy's Duty" (which you will finish, so help me, even if I have to threaten you with an angry budgie), I can only reiterate a very wise piece of advice given me by a much-esteemed author whose name escapes me (hi Liza!).....

Frell canon. Seriously. I mean, yes, respect your source material, but by no means be enslaved by it. So long as your characters and events are compelling and self-consistent, you're good to go.

And now, I slink off shamefacedly to wrestle with Three-Fingered Salute.

It's competing with TS and Appleseeds, you realize. A Matrix fic and a Farscape fic. I mean, really.

*coughs* I completely forgot I said that. That was about TFS, wasn't it? Ha.

So long as your characters and events are compelling and self-consistent, you're good to go.

The problem here is the "so long as" part.. I mean, I'm having plotting problems with A Malfoy's Duty you wouldn't beleive. And as for "Stories..." my problem's of an entirely different nature. All my fics have something to say - and I can't help but feel that this one's already been said.

And now, I slink off shamefacedly to wrestle with Three-Fingered Salute.

Speaking of fics that must be written, lest we release the dred attack bugies...

Also, Tim! Tim Tim Tim! Because that's never gonna stop being funny. ^_^

Perfectly understandable... priorities and all that. I'm just sayin', is all.

that was about TFS, wasn't it?
Yep. With emphasis the very specific "real-world" timeline established for .hack and how it completely fails to work and play well with the perpetual 1999 that is the Matrix.

Working on it! Come hell or high water, I'm going to have the first piece finished by the first so I can sign up for the One and a Halfth Annual Great Canadian Lyric Wheel challenge on a clear conscience. Then it'll be back to the salt data mines.

Though to be fair, in that case that should be "frell fanon" because the perpetual 1999 thing isn't actually canon. I just happen to be madly in love with the idea.

OMGYAY! I'm really looking forward to Jagged Little Fics... and I'm trying to have my Multiverse done by then too (even though that's two weeks before deadline) for similar reasons. (Though really, sign-ups are when I have the leeast to do.)
