Watch Me Be Unpopular!

Oct 20, 2007 16:47

I am stuck at work, have exausted my f'list, don't quite feel like responding to comments, and my f'list dump file of random crap is at home.

So, I'm going to post here from scratch, a meme that was going around a long time ago, and I've decided to revive/do my own take on:

My Unpopular Fannish Opinions

Stark and Stark/Zhaan is more deep, beautiful, and compelling than John, Aeryn, and J/A

But what about John/Stark? Huh? Huh?

Paul Goddard's sexier than Ben Browder.

HEY!!! *sticks tongue out at you*

I was kinda trying to stick to canon ships...

John/Stark, is, natch, the SEXIEST - if a wee bit contrived.

HEY!!! *sticks tongue out at you*

I'm entitled to my opinion. And don't stick that thing unless you're gonna use it!

The Doctor loves Rose... and every other companion, ever. And you. And me.
Rose is special... as is every other companion. And so are you. And so am I.

Amen.

I find Doctor/Companion pairing for the most part terribly squicky. Especially Two/Jaimie, Five/Adric, Five/Nyssa, and Seven/Ace. I just can't get over the paternal thing.

Amen.

I hate the new Tardis design. Was the Doctor that homesick for galifrey he had to cover everything in cat-vomit orange? God. Oh, little white octogons, how I miss you. I'll even take that pretentious fake wood paneling.

I liked the wood panelling, actually. But I do have mixed feelings about the wierd lighting in the new console room.

I CAN'T FUCKING STAND JACK O'-FUCKING-NEIL!!

That's sad. 8-(

Mostly it bums me out cause I assosiate it with Sarah leaving - many of my early who opinions were formed in childhood, and are thus not that rational.

That's sad. 8-(

*shrugs* He drives me nuts. Very rarely I can appreciate him (he was quite wonderful in "The Real World" and his other Atlantis guest spots) but most of the time he makes my teeth itch with irritation. That the rest of fandom to a person seems to fall all over him only serves to take that irritation and fan it into boiling hatred. Which isn't at all fair, but these are my unfiltered opinions.

Hey, I agree with quite a few of those (though I do like O'Neill except when he broke Sam's promise to the replicator guy) so they're not that unpopular. ;-) I'm not sure that Rodney loves Sam, but he may grow to. I'm certainly starting to love him a lot. :-)

My most unpopular B7 opinions are:
  • Vila is so much more interesting and sexy than Avon.
  • Avon has no empathy. He is not therefore a latent telepath.
  • Any animal that encounters the crew would choose just about anyone ahead of Avon (and probably Dayna) as a target for their affection.
  • Surviving crew after GP would be seriously pissed off with Avon; they would not rally round to console him for killing an unarmed friend and make healing his pain their primary goal. They would sod off and get on with their own lives, as far away as possible from him.
  • I do not see Avon/Blake. Avon/Cally is more likely.

Well, I tried. I'm not that good at being unpopular, it seems. ;)

I'm not sure that Rodney loves Sam, but he may grow to.

I point to Grace Under Pressure as evidence that it's a bit more than lust. Reguardless, the infatuation is certainly cannon, and all the McShep shippers who insist on making rodney flaming gay rub me the wrong way.

I've never found Avon all that sexy - or even that interesting a character.

He is not therefore a latent telepath.

...seriously, where do people get this stuff? I mean, WTF??

Any animal that encounters the crew would choose just about anyone ahead of Avon (and probably Dayna) as a target for their affection.

No, a cat's sense of perversity would lead it in a beeline straight to Avon - they love pestering the people who least want them.

Surviving crew after GP would be seriously pissed ( ... )

Agreed. I know he's infatuated and I'm intrigued as to what will happen when Sam joins the team (as I can see she will by the new season credits). I just wasn't sure it was love. As for John and Rodney, what the hell's wrong with friendship?

they love pestering the people who least want them.

They do, but they'd give their love to those who love them back, as my little guys do. :-)

I couldn't give a fig about either one.

And I've never written either one. I certainly don't ship Avon/Cally; I just said it was more likely than Avon/Blake.

I don't ship. Anybody. AT ALL.I didn't either, but I admit I have paired Vila and Soolin in my big PGP. However, their relationship is a small part of the story, not its bloody raison d'etre. Also, Vila/Kerril is canon, but I have only one unwritten story where he finds her again and it's only at the very end: the rest of the story's about something else ( ... )

You don't get porn that way, is I think the thinking.

I just don't generally ship. I much prefer friendship and any pairing I have will not have any sex or shmoop unless it's behind closed doors and well away from my story. :-P

Sex and shmoop I'm fond of - in other fandoms. I just can't write either one for B7, nor fully wrap my head around them.

I absolutely adored Matrix Reloaded. One of the best movies ever. I'm not too keen on Matrix Revolutions myself, but then again, I haven't given it a rewatch since it debuted in theaters. I should watch it again to see whether I like it more. But Reloaded was certainly a masterpiece in my eyes.

*nodnodnod* Try to see both (or all three!) back-to-back if you can. It's quite an experience.

I agree with EVERYTHING you say about Stargate/s. Except for the deep seated man crush. LOL. I just dont get slash and never, ever, will. Unless it is actually canon.

And I half agree with you on the Farscape stuff. Especially about the Grayza-baby. Not really because I want it to, but because it makes sense to me.

Even Jack? Nobody agrees with me about Jack!!

Except for the deep seated man crush. LOL.

Yeah, well, I did say "at most..."

I just dont get slash and never, ever, will.

HOT MENS KISSING. Seriously. That's about it.

Unless it is actually canon.

Oh, Priscilla, Queen of the Desert. I love my canon slash pairing.

And I half agree with you on the Farscape stuff.

It's tough to get takers on "more compelling than J/A" That's okay. :)

Especially about the Grayza-baby. Not really because I want it to, but because it makes sense to me.

Wheras I've seen many logical holes poked in it but cling stubornly to it, cause I like it.

One of the reasons I never watched Stargate until Ben and Claudia came into it was Jack, the other reason was Daniel.

Well, I just dont think there was enough Zhaan and Stark to make it *more* compelling, but if there was, I might agree with you. J&A got a tad repetitive towards the end of S3 and then through all of S4.

I dunno, every time I watch PKW I wonder who the father is. And the fact that I always think John being the daddy is even remotely possible, says to me that someone on Farscape must've thought so too. Or am I reaching? LOL.

I loved Daniel in the original movie and s1 - he kinda went downhil until he's now not even in my top five Stargate characters.

Note to self: innundate you w/ fanfic.

Oh god, yes. Do not with the getting me started. ;)

No, I'm pretty sure Ben broached the possibility at some point - or maybe it was ...dammit, I'm brain-farting on Grayza's actress' name! R-something. HELL.
