Music from the Cube: What Am I Listening To Today?

Nov 26, 2006 13:16

I know. It's a looooong weekend and I'm posting this. That's because it took me forever to write this up the way it should be.

In any case, you are all in for one hell of a treat. Okay, maybe it's more me that's in for a hell of a treat ( Read more... )

Let me explain. The chorus as written by Grant Hart is "2541 / Big windows to let in the sun". I believe that, at first pass, Marshall sang something like "Big windows to lay in the sun".

I'm taking "Take Me With U", because improbable Prince covers are great. Remind me to put up the Gear Daddies doing "Little Red Corvette" with a lap steel.

And "I'm Sorry (But so is Brenda Lee)" is one of my Xander songs.

Thank you for solving the mystery.

I was digging all over my LJ last night trying to find the exchange we had where you explained that (will edit post accordingly). I found a few threads of the conversation, but not the actual answer.

And Heeee! On improbable covers. I love them, especially when they're done by artists that are so radically different from the original artist.

Good choice for a Xander song, btw! It's so fitting that it's frightening.

There's a couple in Crenshaw's oeuvre that could slot in quite nicely in a Xander-centric fanmix. *Tries not to look at 'Only an Hour Ago' for immediately after 'Hell's Bells.' 'Stop Doing That' as a stand-in for that fight between Demon!Anya and Xander in 'Beneath You.' There's a few more I'm sure I can throw in without thinking too hard.*

Yes, very clearly some us of think that trading the dialog in BtVS S6 and S7 for really good songs would've gone a long way to rescuing the show.

Then I'll also have to find Luther Wright and the Wrongs doing "Comfortably Numb".

Although Marshall recorded the definitive version of this song, it was written by the inimitable Ben Vaughn.

Oh, wow--this is wonderful! The reviews were excellent, and I snagged all of them. You're right about him being familiar; I definitely recognize (and really like) the voice.

Thank you so much for sharing! Now I have new stuff to listen to while I cook tonight! :)

Enjoy and love! The opening bars of the Field Day version of 'Whenever You're On My Mind' make me truly happy whenever I hear them.

Crenshaw lives in upstate New York, so he often plays small club dates down around NYC and the tickets for his shows aren't too pricey (I think I paid something like $24 when he played Somerville) because he does all his own booking and promotion. If you get a chance, definitely go. He puts on a good one-man show.

OK, so I've been enjoying while cooking, and I am madly, madly in love. Awesome, awesome stuff, and I am *so* grateful to you for sharing! :)

I will definitely be on the lookout for Crenshaw shows here; I'm starting to get the lots-of-live-music itch, and he would certainly be someone I'd love to see. Thanks! :D

Thank you for this! I I used to sing " Someday, Some Way" to my kids when they were fussy. The lyrics are eerily appropriate for a screaming baby:

"I can't stand to see you sad,
I can't bear to hear you cry.
If you can't tell me what you need,
All I can do is wonder why.
Some day, some way...
Maybe I'll understand you."

Also, last spring I got to see Amy Rigby and Marti Jones perform in San Francisco as "Cynical Girls," and yes, they sang the song. Awesome! I'm definitely going to download some of these and buy some of the more recent CDs.

Glad you liked. And heh! On singing Crenshaw to crying babies. :-)

And that's cool information about the "Cynical Girls."

I know that Rhino has just released a slightly expanded version of This Is Easy called "Definitive Pop" that would probably give you more bang for the buck. Of his later original studio albums, #447 is my favorite of the three.
