Liz's Instant Glee-Cap - 5x06 - Moving Out

Nov 22, 2013 08:31

NATURALLY my damn cable went on the fritz 10 minutes before the episode started, hence the relative lateness of this recap. I did half-watch on a shitty livestream while on the phone with the cable company, and suddenly I have ever so much sympathy for those of you outside of the U.S. who have to watch the show like this every week. That was awful ( Read more... )

It just occurred to me that this watching-online thing is probably why I don't play Spot-the-Ring that much - I can't freaking SEE it half the time!

Artie summons Becky to the auditorium to sing “Honesty,” which is actually a song I don’t know.
Funny, that was one of the rare cases of Glee using a song I'm pretty familiar with. Must have heard it on the radio a lot at my old job (I don't listen to the radio much, which is why I don't know many songs.) I actually knew a surprising amount of songs in this ep, although I never knew who sang them.

The intro to “You May Be Right,” complete with fourth-wall Sue rant makes me laugh my ass off. Go for it, Glee. I do love it when you call out your own insanity. This ( ... )

I find I only cared about the Artie/Becky story because it was a story about them LEAVING McKINLEY.

I agree that Marley just needs to be single and not mope over the loss of Jake. But then again, I need them all to just fade away.

NEW YORK. MORE. NOW. PLEASE. And yes, all piano, all the time. Life is just one big group singalong.

Santana is livid that every meal in the loft will now end in song. ... She storms off in horror while Kurt kicks off “Just the Way You Are” in his gorgeous lower register, and it’s a full sing-along around Blaine at the piano and I am freaking thrilled.

This tied for my favorite song in the episode. (I also loved Sam and Blaine on the bus.) All those voices together and separately were simply lovely. Third favorite was probably Honesty, because I've been wishing to hear more Kevin McHale solos.

As for the school year that would never end... I kind of like it, because when you're a senior, sometimes that's how it feels. And this is the last school year for the remainder of the original class/cast, I guess, since Artie and Tina will be graduating. *sniffle*

I agree that "Just the Way You Are" and "Moving Out" were probably my top two, but my third was "Piano Man," even if it seems like it maybe fell in a weird part of his vocal range. I like Kevin McHale, I like his voice, I frequently like his songs. But this one didn't do it for me.

They arrive at the loft and it’s all I’ve ever wanted. Please don’t ever make them go back to Lima.

Testify.

With you on the Rachel/Sam thing as well; it's cute to see Rachel sort-of-noticing another guy, and Sam is pretty adorable (and Rachel is used to being with guys who are not the brightest porch light on the block, so there's that). But the best part was watching Santana notice and react. Bless.

Marley/Jake/Ryder OH FUCK ME I do not care. This love triangle has been sucking my will to live for over a year now.

Seriously. My greatest wish for Marley, and honestly for the entire vestigial Lima-based part of the show (because in my heart Blaine and Sam have already moved to NYC, dammit), is that she dump both boys and run off with Unique to be BFFs forever. If nothing else it would have the virtue of being a new storyline, since they've already spun infidelity and love triangles every other possible way, some more than once, and I am just so beyond bored by the very idea of going through it again.

Yup yup yup.

The reactions from both Santana and Kurt to the Rachel/Sam thing were priceless. And while I don't think it will or should go anywhere terribly serious, I don't mind seeing where it does go as long as no one gets too hurt in the process.

And yes, Marley/Unique is about the best pairing (romantic or not) of that entire new cast. The two of them are great together, and Unique is MUCH better to and for Marley than either of those idiot boys.
