This was so beautifully bittersweet and I was aching for poor Jill and her need and fear.
Bits I loved: - Jacobi and his little black book. - Jill refusing to be charmed by Lindsay's awesomeness - Lindsay holstering her markers - flushed carnation pink. She quelled an urge to reach for Lindsay’s hand, to pull it to her cheek. - Lindsay, fearful of sounding defensive or needy, made an arid plain of her voice. - “In case no one’s told you this before - making love with you is hardly a chore.” - If you want this to stay casual, then don’t seduce me. Don’t push me out there alone. - “Come home with me.” - Jill knew that one of these nights, Lindsay might hold her a little too tight for a little too long, and she wouldn’t have the strength to leave. - Lindsay bowed her head low, nuzzled into the dewy contours of her best friend’s chest, and said “I love you” with an ease that made Jill’s heart cramp. - She gave herself permission to hold on for five minutes, to stroke and

Lindsay and Jill and sex on a desk... it's a winning combination. :-D
But, oh the angst. They're so riddled with insecurities and fear. I'm left wanting to hug them both, and say "It's ok, you can let it be more, it's worth the complications and rules, expectations and angst."
This is a particularly favourite line. On the short list of things she wanted to tell Lindsay and probably never would, this was number one: If you want this to stay casual, then don’t seduce me. Don’t push me out there alone.
All in all, gorgeous. A very bitter sweet image to take to bed, though.
