I am the friend of the boy that slit his own throat because he was different and his family refused to understand.

I am the sister of the girl whose family understands but wants her to be happy and nurtured (as they fear she would be the 'butch' and end up playing a male role in the relationship). But my sister's girlfriend was so controlling to the extent that when my sis didn't feel she was attentive enough, she took some pills and sliced at her wrist. My sister is now happy and my family is more consientious of her needs, as are her circle of friends (who do not include her ex).

I am sorry for your loss. I know there are all sides of people coming out, that knowledge contributes to my many fears form my sister.

This post is congratulating those who make a positive difference in acceptance of those different than us.
