Then J and I are going to New York for a week's extended hen party. Hey, thanks! I'm not really planning to turn up in NY with nowhere organized to stay, honest. I have a plan, just I haven't actually spoken in person to BG who's supposed to be hosting us, which makes me nervous. (I also really hope I didn't come across as fishing for invitations.)

But it would be really exciting to meet you (though I should perhaps admit that I have only vague guesses as to who you are). Yeah, I'll call you from New York (which will be Monday or after that).

If you'll excuse me picking your brains, is there anything complicated or unobvious about using public phones in New York?

Only that you have to dial 1 and the area code for all calls (not just on public phones), which confused my last visitor. In other words, even if you're dialing from another 212 number, you have to dial 1-212-942-1710 to reach me.

Well, if we manage to meet up in NY then you'll definitely know who I am. And who I am actually as a person, separate from my social context. Wow, that feels like one of those ideas that are so brilliant that they seem absolutely obvious once they've been pointed out.

Thankyou, thoughtful angel. I was just at that nadir when stressing about travel arrangements was threatening to outweigh excitement about the actual travelling, and a hug really helped to tip the balance in the right direction.
