Today after 5th period Grace started telling Mr. Scott about some of the kids in her geography class, like the two that had to ask whether Hawaii is a state or country. He said, "Hey, I've had that question too!" He then proceeded to tell us about some of his students, like the girl that, not only filled in all the wrong countries on a map, but ( Read more... )

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Latin_america

Latin America corresponds roughly to all nations south of the United States including Mexico, most of Central and South America, and the countries of the Caribbean where Spanish, Portuguese, French, or related Creole languages are spoken.[...] Although several peoples of Latin America are not directly connected to the Latium region of Italy or to the Roman Empire, most of the population speaks a Latin-derived language such as Portuguese or Spanish.

I know not all Latin Americans speak Spanish, but a lot do.

P.S. I think we like to argue too much.

Well, it should be obvious Hawaii is a state. And no one should be dumb enough to hold a world map upside-down.

But ... well, I'm horrible with geography. I know the very very basics, but not much more than that. I almost feel a little threatened by all the hate against the geographically-disadvantaged. x_x I mean, I know (or... hope) that you probably wouldn't insult me, but ehh.

No, no, I'm terrible at geography too. I don't mean to sound arrogant, I just don't think there's an excuse for holding a world map upside-down. It's not a matter of being "geographically-disadvantaged." It's a matter of plain, ol' stupidity with these kids.
Here's another one: One kid thought that if you cross the International Date line enough times you'd go back in time and then die. I guess you could call that imagination, but...
