I have been trying to push my family outa the idea of spending money which could be used well enough than just food and buying stuff which wont last for more than a few days.......but what choice could you provide them, However once that time comes they always have loads to talk abt how our culture and tradition needs to be followed.........only when it comes to these issues i suppose its to be followed......whats said in Vedas and scripts are mostly overlooked or even forgotten........

secondly, with enough distance being put between me and the event, i can say, with full honestly, that i'm glad i went through it all (well, perhaps not the wedding night bit, but the rest of it). more than anything else, it makes for good memories- don't think of how much of a dork you might look like (you won't), but think of the enjoyment you got out of seeing all your many relatives' wedding pictures- it makes for good conversation and gossip (and great bitching, which is what we all live for)
