Back now. Was a very fine weekend adventure. The McKenzie River is a lot like the Nantahala, fast and cold and fresh clear green. We visited Cougar Hotsprings (4 pools, clothing optional, 1/4 mile hike, near the Reservoir, $5/head to the USFS to get in) and did a hike to the top of Castle Mountain. A friend from AZ just brought the newest bicyclist's joy in Portland to my attention: they're putting big green areas on the pavement at some intersections so that bikes have a place where they are supposed to wait at intersections. Here's the link: Read more... )

It was cold this morning, right around freezing when I got up, and I wore layers and a scarf to ride my bike to school. I ride a short distance from home to school, across the Ross Island Bridge, which is NOT RECOMMENDED and certainly not for the faint of heart.

On the bottom floor of the 3 story brick building that houses NCNM there is a row of computer terminals lining one wall of the hall. There are several printers also lined up, and during the daytime students are at every terminal checking email and printing course notes from e-reserves. Now I'm the only one standing here. Last my sweet Shakti pissed on my bed the second night in a row. I didn't understand why until I looked inside her (enclosed) litter box and saw that she has been quite sick, and the box was unusable by her standards. I think that was what she was mad about, mad enough to piss right on my sleeping bag after pissing on my comforter the night ( Read more... )

Got my Oregon driver's license this morning. I passed the computerized driver's test with 82% correct. I didn't look at the rulebook, and took the test at high speed.
