My television habit

I haven't watched much TV in this life. It's because my family moved to Austria when I was 12, and I was broken of the young habit. When I returned at age 16, I couldn't believe how inane TV was. I could sit through it, but the most fascinating part for me was always the advertising. What are they selling, and how? If anyone hands me a remote ( Read more... )

A quick response to leaving and coming back to TV - I lived in Japan for two years. When I came home, advertising hurt me. I came home in the early 90's. The first Gulf War was over. And I swear ads must have gone from cutting in 7 sec. clips to 3 or 4 sec clips while I was gone. And I remember feeling like I was assaulted with sound and motion.

Yes! When you don't partake regularly the changes are more obvious. And there's def a different feel to it now than there was when I was a kid (60-70's). Assaulted is a good word for it.
