How could I as a lay person decide if this is appropriate? Also which form and how much. This sounds like something that could be helpful for me.

What´s the downside of DHEA?

Sorry, I am only studying this for the first time myself, and I am in no position to make recommendations! Feel free to read my notes and make your own decisions about DHEA. I am simply reading all the articles I can find about it, and trying to put together more of the scientific truth as opposed to the marketing claims which are abundant.

I'm thinking about trying it myself, though. My first experiment. I might have my mother try it too, if that tells you anything. =-]

The side effects are not well known! I've been told it could cause you to have increases in estrogen (which can cause breast cancer) or testosterone (which could give you chest hair). Which steroid path it will take depends on which enzymes are strongest in YOU, which is unknown until you try it. Skeery, I know. Taking the 17-keto form seems to be the way around the steroid effects, but the side effects of that are not well known.

Note to self: Went to New Seasons today to see if I could buy DHEA. Had to ask where it was. Only five rows of product, two brands. Dosages were 25 and 50mg. The 17-keto form was sold out. I didn't buy any. I was hoping for 100mg doses. Will shop about some online ( ... )
