River Tales: Section IV Checkout Day

Every time I talk with certain old friends, we trade stories from our years of working and playing on the river. I have so many such stories that when someone asks me to tell them a story, I have trouble selecting a single one to tell. I have long thought that I should tell those stories in my journal. My favorite Jawbone story: We, as NOC did, have a high rope, right above Hydro and a low rope to belay the raft into the eddy at the bottom of Jawbone, and above Sock-em-Dog. In my first year, I was holding rope on rio LEFT to the opposite of Hydro, and Robert Harrison, photon emeritus, ambles up to chat. He noticed that I was gripped tighter than a bulldog's sphincter, and to pass around some sage advice said sometime to the affect of, "you know, it's all about being safe and having a good time. All the rest is just details." Yep Robert, I see that now. Thanks for the insight.
