I sort of agree, though just about anything that would relieve or prolong the effects of dementia would be welcome.

Science has had repeated paradigm shifts in its short history and i think we may be undergoing another one which addresses some of your concerns. Asian and preliterate societies are becoming less the objects of study and more the source of hypotheses about what works and what doesn't.
