Awww..that really sucks. :-( If I were there I would give you a big hug. I mean, I'm sorry for that lady but she probably left her stove on or something. You had nothing to do with the fire. I would have throw myself a little pity party(I would feel sorry for myself) over those events too. But, like you said, thank goodness your dogs were with you! I hope the mess gets fixed soon. Take the food to someone else's place and have a BBQ there.? Good luck, I feel really bad for you.

Thank you!!! livemusicjunkie August 22 2005, 01:17:14 UTC
yeah - I could've really used a hug...what a strange, strange night. The nice thing was that we discovered that we have some really nice neighbors. Most of us have pulled together on this and helped each other out, which is really nice.

Thank God you took your dogs with you!

I'm so sorry you're going through such an awful situation.

You're in my prayers.

And, ya know, funny thing is...I'm not even sure WHY I took my babies with me. I mean, I had left three other times that day to go to the store and I didn't take them. I don't know why I did, but I'm glad I did. That is for sure!!!

It's been a month since you posted this very, very sad journal. I hope things are looking up.

thx for the note...unfortunately, not much has changed. My doggies and I are still living in the empty apartment. As a matter of fact, yesterday the manager told me I could move back home. I went over there and refused. I mainly refused on the basis that they (the contract workers) had thrown debris over the wall onto my patio. I told her that I'm not moving back there and putting my dogs on the patio when there are pieces of wood with nails sticking out for one of the dogs to walk on ( ... )

Do you know how the fire started? The reason I ask is if it had anything to do with the faulty upkeep of the building you may have a case in small claims to recover what you lost like the table and what ever else was damaged, not to mention the time you spent dealing with it. Whatever you do don't move back in to that apartment until you know how the fire started. I believe you can get that information from the fire department. Don't trust you're building manager it sounds to me like they are only interested in making sure there is someone paying the rent.

Once again I am sorry this happened to you.

The night the fire happened, we were told the fire happened because of a gas leak. We don't know any further details. Also, supposedly, we can't get the report from the fire department unless we get an attorney. I'm going to call myself, but one of the other tenants said only the management would receive the report.

I know that if it was, in fact, a gas leak, then they're responsible. It's just all such a hassle because they're not willing to do anything without an arguement. Heck, they're trying to get me to move home when the apartment isn't even ready. If you look at the pictures I posted, the black stuff above my door is still there - there's also similar looking marks above my air conditioner (which is to the right of the door). Neither of which they took the time to paint over.
