Here's what I desire most. If one of our German or Austrian fans is willing to write a letter to me in German a couple times a month for a year, and not heap scorn on me when I struggle to answer back (since I haven't been able to visit Europe since 1975) I will offer a hundred bucks.
The letters can be about anything--what I really want is a chance to practice German with modern people, outside of my old books. I can read it fairly well still, but I never get a chance to actually use it.
So there's my offer: a hundred bucks for a German or Austrian penpal for one year.
As a non-US resident and avid searcher of eBay, I'd have loved to bid on some sort of shopping-service, because it's just so terrifically frustrating to find that while there's half a dozen people offering that book you want and haven't been able to find in your local second-hand bookstore for the past year(s), none of them is willing to ship outside of the US.
I think I could help a bit with this... I'd need full compensation for purchase and s/h I'd have to do, but I can understand your pain. If you're looking for books, I have other recommended sites to look at, too. Send me an email at claritycw at gmail and we'll try to work something out. =)
Spotted it, squealed, placed a bid and will now be unable to sleep tonight due to being too busy worrying about being outbid because I didn't quite feel I could afford to splurge for the BIN-option. Heh. Thanks very much!
I have an israeli friend who is a real sweetie, I'm sure he'd be willing to, once I explain this auction. I need to get in contact with him though, and he's at his army base most of the week, so I don't know how soon I can get a reply from him. But I will email him about it, and get back to this thread as soon as I can.
Yes, my Israeli said he'd do it; it's just that he'd only be able to work on this during the weekends, since he's on base the rest of the time. Depending on how many songs you want translated, it should only take a couple weekends at most, probably. Drop me a line at rstundel at gmail dot com and we can work out details?
