Shamelessly appropriated from inspired by sabinelagrande's awesome offer of an autographed copy of The Anita Bryant Story, and egged on by chomiji, whose giggly reaction when I floated the idea over lunch yesterday convinced me to do it, I present to you another exercise in collectible irony!

Offered: One Easton Press leather-bound first edition of Orson Scott Card's ( Read more... )

OMG. WANT. I completely disagree with OSC's viewpoints, but I still like several works of his like whoa.

I . . . have to check my bank account when I get back from Chicago. *stares longingly*

Really? I'd thought several were paypal only. Huh. That simplifies things for me. And oh God, so tempted.

Nope -- only one of the three listed even takes PayPal (Marriage Equality USA, which is also the only one that has information listed for folks who want to send checks via snailmail). All three of the ones on the suggested list take credit cards (although Marriage Equality USA's donation page might be a little confusing on that front -- to donate online by credit card instead of Paypal, you need to select their first option, "Donations in Honor or Celebration Of".

(do you mean 1979-1989?)

I meant 1977, and clearly cannot type properly when giggling like a mad thing. Thank you, editing now!

(You realize that, never having read or really paid attention to Card-yes, I know, very bad sff fan-I wasn't really familiar with WHY this was amazing...so I went to wikipedia."Any homosexual man who can persuade a woman to take him as her husband can avail himself of all the rights of husbandhood under the law."...WTF?)

If you really care to find out more, my link above in the book's title will take you to Card's own site. You can find plenty of his editorializing at length on gay marriage and sundry other issues if you poke about there long enough. I don't really care to look it up myself right now, I'm in a very good mood from posting this and really don't want to harsh my happy little buzz.

Oh man, not bidding, but the WHOLE IDEA of this fills me with glee. If I were the highest bidder I would send Card the letter myself, maybe with a picture of myself holding the book and a print off of the donation screen of whatever VERY VERY GAY donation site the winner chose. Awesome awesome awesome idea.

I must confess, I cackled out loud for several minutes after I hit "POST". And then I poured a myself a very large celebratory drink. Now, if only it would get some bids! C'mon, folks, Anita Bryant's book is already past a hundred dollars, and she's not even fannish! XD

I. I. *LOVES ON* Not enough cash to actually contribute, but hell, if the bidding gets high enough I WILL WILLINGLY CHIP IN ABOUT TEN BUCKS TO PUSH IT TO 585.

Even if the auction isn't insane enough to reach the magic OTP figure, I might possibly be just the sort of obsessive fangirl who will throw in some extra-special-seekrit-unannounced-bonus-goodies if the final total at least includes an eight and a five somewhere. BECAUSE THEY'RE SO MARRIED, LEGAL OR NOT. XD

I was going to comment to say something about how OSC is somewhat of a jerk *cough*, and then read the lulz bit at the bottom. I wish I could >.< *broke as get all*

DO IT FOR THE LULZ!

I've got bids in other auctions...but this is just too tempting. There goes my paycheck if no one else bids. ^.^
