Oooh, this is nifty! And I agree with your views on Valentine's Day, Brain Twin. Except I was (haha, was?) the kid making the o.O face at the 'love is grand/painful' kids and eating candy that I totally got half price. Yeah, that is how I roll.
Brain Twin!! Man, I miss Valentine's Day in elementary school where you had to give your whole class valentines. Because then you'd get candy from them, plus your mom would buy a giant value pack of candy and there was always more candy than classmates so you'd get all those extras, too. And you and your friends would swap around hoards during recess. Those were the days, man.
In high school I was on the literary magazine, and one year we got the bright idea to do a Valentine's Day themed contest. So much bad emo poetry, holy crap. One poem started off with, "There is no worse feeling in the world than unrequited love," and I was like, "Hoo boy, here we go," and our teacher was like ARE YOU KIDDING ME?? And then my school always had an assembly for V-Day and read excerpts from the Vagina Monologues so the rest of the day consisted of girls yelling "VAGINA!!" to each other in the halls. So I guess that's why I only ever associate the day with entertainment from other people. Haha.
