This is indeed gorgeous, I like how you've shown the stages of Renji's grief (anger, bargaining, acceptance...) and the way he's grown over the years. 'The haori is heavy today' said so much, and was so heartbreaking!

Ok, I actually had to sit for an hour and think about how to answer your comment XD You see, your Renji/Byakuya fics were some of the first to get me into the pairing and I've meant to go back and comment on some of your older stuff to tell you so, but somehow RL gets in the way every time I want to sit down and reread so I can put my feelings into words. I enjoyed taking Renji through those stages and bringing him back from the edge; getting into his head for his interactions with Byakuya is always incredbly interesting. And that's one of my favourite lines, too :)

I always anticipate other writers' take on the dynamic between Renji and Byakuya-- it's the nuances we put into their relationship that kind of make them our own. XD I don't think two people ever write them the same way, so it makes it enjoyable (haha.. and sometimes challenging) to find a fic that resonates, you know? :)
You have Renji maturing and growing into his captaincy here, it's a quiet piece and is poignant with his regard and devotion for Byakuya so strong even after six years... you captured his loss really well.
