[This entry is slightly backdated to the morning of February 22nd.]I didn't want to do this immediately after the fact, but it's been nearly a month since Grift's departure and I don't think there's sense in waiting any longer

We're not so far apart, then. I've been here through two Septembers.
[Now that was an interesting question she just asked. Lyle perched on one of the sturdier boxes close by, arms on his knees and hands clasped in front of him. He stared at the far wall for a long moment before answering.]
I think you can become more numb to it. Get into a routine of blocking it out until you decide you want to face it--if you ever do. Still, I wouldn't say that necessarily makes it easier.

Oh. I thought... Well, it makes no difference now, does it? Somehow I thought you'd been around longer than that, is all.
[She looked a little past him in the way that said she was listening but didn't want to intrude on whatever feelings the topic stirred in him. He seemed a good sort, she had decided by now, and she at once wanted this answer and hoped it didn't distress him to speak of it.]
Something like that is pretty much bound to happen, isn't it? I don't like thinking that I've... maybe sort of hardened against it. It still hurts a lot, especially if it's someone close to me, but...
What you said, really. I can step back from it if I have to.
I'm sorry. This isn't really a subject for, well, talking with someone you just met. Maybe it's just because of where we are right now. Or why I'm here.

Mm, that's how life works, I suppose. Better to harden a little than to let things get the better of you.
[He chuckled a bit at her apology. Still wry, but decidedly less mirthless than his previous laughter.] A little heavy, hm? It does come with the territory for this sort of thing but I wouldn't blame you if you wanted to just leave it at that.
[Quicklog--at Grift's place] - feels like we might be nearing wrap-up?weaver_girlMarch 16 2011, 10:41:14 UTC
I think I would like to leave it at that. For now, at least.
[She smiled, with some trace of apology, but there was a quiet satisfaction in her expression. She'd come and closed a cover, even if one of many, on her grief. She'd take her poems, go home, and remember Grift.
Smoothing her skirt against her legs, she rose to her feet.]
I'll remember to say hello next time I see you in the bar, then. And... maybe we can talk more. It isn't as if there's so many of us old-timers left.
[A shake of her head, an almost-wry laugh at that. She did feel old sometimes, for all she knew she was hardly even an adult where she came from.]
[Quicklog--at Grift's place] - Indeed. o/live_ringerMarch 16 2011, 17:03:36 UTC
Fine by me.
[As far as Lyle could tell by Kagerou's expression, she looked like she had some closure. Good, that's what this was about, just as much as it was about carrying out the few wishes and directives Grift had left.
The comment about them both being old-timers got an honest laugh out of him--Sphere age being a different thing or no, it was still an amusing thing to hear from someone he could and would still regard as a 'kid'.]
I wouldn't be opposed to reminiscing about the old days and how the hatchlings today don't know how good they have it. [His smile turned lopsided as he stood.] In the meantime, take care, all right?

Yes. Next time you come by, your first round is on the house. I'm sure Grift would approve, after all this trouble you went to for him.
I will, and you, too! I will see you around.
[She waved a hand in goodbye, gathered her coat and shrugged into it, and left Lyle to his waiting with a much lighter heart than she had arrived.]
