In an art theft scandal that's sure to be dubbed something witty and unique like "Love-gate",
Chad Love Lieberman has been stealing artists' work from sites like Deviant Art and selling copies as "original" and "hand painted" on the websites Art4Love.com and MarkYourSpot.com (both disappeared overnight after artists started
noticing and
reacting). Afterall, a con-artist is still an artist, right?
Then
plantyhamchuk mentioned
on Ursula's LJ that Lieberman has a couple of books. Would a man willing to steal massive quantities of art really go through the effort to write his own book, I asked myself. So I decided to do a little digging. I was simply SHOCKED to discover that page 195 of his book,
Creative Warriors Walk Alone, matches word-for-word page 391 of Cameron S. Foote's book The business side of creativity.
I don't have time to look for more right now, but I'll be surprised if he didn't steal the entire content of the book.
Page 195 of Creative Warriors can be viewed on Amazon's Look Inside. The excerpt of Foote's book is here:
http://tinyurl.com/love-plagiarism Edit: I'm back from running errands, and I've been looking a little closer. On
page one, Lieberman confesses, "Gathered over a period of three years at Art4love, much of the information comes more than one hundred warriors of creative firms as well as previously published material in other books." (sic) Which actually means that the only part Lieberman wrote was the intro. Everything else was stolen wholesale from Foote. On page one, he starts paraphrasing. Page two, is copy/pasted with few if any changes from Foote's original.
Edit 2: I've got a more detailed comparison of the two works
here.
Edit 3: I contacted Foote. Also, info about Lieberman's second book
here.
Edit 4: All of his
articles were stolen, as well.
