Elijah Graves had been a wizard for a long time by that point. What Allison and he could not have known was how horribly their lives were about to collide.

Allison's lover, Victor, had been Elijah's best friend all through out school, and someone he himself cared for a great deal. It has been wrenching when, in their thirties, Victor had been killed.

Yes, slain while doing his job as an Auror, with Elijah. And if Elijah had known about Allison, he would have told her what had happened. But Victor had not shared his lovely girlfriend with his friends, and when he died no one had known there was anyone but friends to inform.

It was coincidence, and a lucky one (if it could be called that) that Elijah was the one knocking on Allison's door, his robes sweeping about him. He now worked at Hogwarts, of course, as the Potions teacher, and it was his job to tell this student, whose parent was a muggle, that their student was a wizard, and would be going to Hogwarts.
